Nope, you can totally play offline! But you'd be missing out on the best part—community levels!
For uploading and downloading levels or playing multiplayer, online service is a must. Creating and playing your own levels locally doesn't require it.
I’ve been playing for ages, and trust me, without Nintendo online, you’re only getting half the fun!
