Nope, you don’t need Xbox Game Pass Core to play Fortnite! Just download the game for free from the Xbox Store and jump right in!

As someone who's been playing Fortnite on Xbox for years, I can say you only need Xbox Live Gold if you want to play online. No need for Game Pass Core.
