For the campaign or zombies mode in Call of Duty: Cold War, you’re good without Xbox Live Gold. But for multiplayer, it’s a must.

Just went through this myself! Xbox Live Gold is only needed for online multiplayer in Cold War. Campaign and zombies can be played without it.
