Does a copy of an MTG card gain all abilities?
GroaningRush·7 months agoAbsolutely! When you copy an MTG card, you copy it in its entirety - abilities included. Think of it like a magical photocopy machine; whatever's on the original, abilities and all, makes it onto the copy. This means your copy will have all the spell-tastic powers, activated abilities, and any static abilities of the original card. Just remember, copying doesn’t carry over counters or effects that have modified the card outside of its original text.

Nah, it's not that straightforward. It depends on what you're copying and how. Most times, yes, abilities get copied because you're duplicating the card as it is printed. But, and it's a big BUT, if we're talking about a creature that's been buffed or modified after it hit the battlefield, those changes aren’t part of the deal. Copy effects only snag the card's original abilities, not the extra toppings added later.
It's a yes from me. A copy of an MTG card is like a twin born with all the same skills as its sibling. So, if you're cloning cards, expect all those nifty abilities to come along for the ride.
