Absolutely, a creature does count as a spell in MTG! When you cast a creature from your hand, you're actually casting it as a creature spell. It's only after it resolves and hits the battlefield that it becomes a creature permanent. So, during that casting process, yes, it's treated just like any other spell.

From first-hand experience, don't forget that since creatures are spells when casting, your opponent can respond! I've had many a creature spell countered before it could even say 'hello' to the battlefield.

Gotta dissent here a bit, folks. While technically true, calling a creature a spell feels weird in casual play. But yeah, for the rules, they're spells until they're not.

If you're an MTG player, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends and others, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

One of those prizes is a pack of MTG cards, which you can win and get sent to you essentially for free!

In case you鈥檙e wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!
