Nope, a PS3 controller won't work on a PS2 directly. Different technologies and connection types, sorry!

Technically, you could use an adapter, but it's a hassle. PS2 controllers are super cheap anyways.

No, PS3 controllers aren't compatible with PS2 consoles. Stick to the original PS2 controllers.
