Does Alternate Cost Count for Color Identity in MTG?
ArisingWard路7 months agoAbsolutely! In Magic The Gathering, alternate costs do count towards a card's color identity. This is super important for formats like Commander, where your card's color identity needs to match your commander's. So, if you've got a spell with an alternate cost that includes a different color, that color is part of the card's color identity too.

Short answer: Yes, it does. Alternate costs don't get a free pass on color identity rules.
Yep, it counts. Learned this the hard way in a Commander game. Had a card with an alternate blue cost in a deck that wasn't supposed to have blue. Caused quite the stir until we looked up the rules.
