Does Animar die from Decree of Pain in MTG?
SignalingCloud·7 months agoDefinitely, Animar meets its demise via Decree of Pain. Here’s the deal: Decree of Pain destroys all creatures and then draws you a card for each creature destroyed this way. While Animar, Soul of Elements, has protection from white and black, this does not save it from Decree of Pain since Decree of Pain doesn’t actually target creatures. Protection stops targeting, dealing damage, enchanting/equipping, and blocking, but it doesn't stop all-encompassing effects like Decree of Pain that don't specifically target.

Nope, Animar doesn't even flinch. Decree of Pain, meet Animar's untargetable hide! Just kidding, Animar is as vulnerable to Decree of Pain as any other creature on the battlefield. Decree of Pain doesn't target, so protection from colors won't save Animar. It's a board wipe that takes down everyone, including our elemental friend.
