Does 'Any' Count as a Target in MTG?
AttendingStoke·7 months agoYep, in Magic The Gathering, when a card says 'any' it totally means you can choose anything that fits the bill. So if a spell says 'destroy any creature,' you're free to target any creature on the battlefield—yours, your opponent's, doesn't matter. 'Any' is MTG's way of giving you the power of choice, so wield it wisely!

Nope, 'any' doesn't always mean you can target something. It depends on the context of the card. Some effects are limited to 'any target' that you could legally choose under the game's rules, like opponents or creatures that aren't hexproof. Always read the fine print!
'Any'' pretty much means you can aim your spell or ability at whatever you want, within the scope of the card's text. It's the game's lingo for 'pick your target.' Used a destroy spell on my buddy's indestructible creature once, thinking 'any' meant 'anything goes.' Spoiler: it didn't go well for me.
