Does cycling count as death in Magic The Gathering for Bontu?
Nope, cycling doesn't count as death in MTG. When you cycle a card, it's considered discarding, not dying. Bontu's gonna need an actual creature death to trigger any of his abilities that rely on things dying.

Short answer: No. Cycling is discarding, not dying. So, Bontu's abilities won't trigger from cycling a card.
Absolutely not. I once thought cycling could be a cheeky way to trigger death effects and amp up my Bontu deck. Learned the hard way at a local tourney that cycling just puts the card in the graveyard from your hand, not from play. So, no dice for triggering those 'whenever a creature dies' abilities.
