If you set location updates to low frequency, it won't be that noticeable. More peace of mind, less battery munching!
Honestly, all location apps drain the battery. No way around it unless you turn off location tracking completely, but that's the point of the app.
My experience? It uses some battery but sacrificing a bit of juice for peace of mind is totally worth it!
