Nah, Hot Wheels is its own boss. Well, technically, Mattel's the big boss since they created Hot Wheels to zoom past Matchbox in the fast lane of diecast car toys. Matchbox didn't have anything to do with creating Hot Wheels. It's like Batman and Robin ending up on the same team, but Batman didn't make Robin, y'know?

Actually, Matchbox and Hot Wheels are frenemies turned family. Mattel owns both, but Hot Wheels was their original speed demon. Matchbox got adopted into the Mattel garage later on. It's like a toy car soap opera.

Nope, it's the other way around. Mattel, the toy giant, owns Hot Wheels. They launched it as a competitor to Matchbox back in 1968. Matchbox was its own thing until Mattel snapped it up in 1997. So, both brands are under the same roof now, but Hot Wheels came from Mattel, not Matchbox.
