In Magic The Gathering, 'play' and 'cast' have slightly different meanings. When you 'cast' a spell, you're specifically dealing with non-land cards, and you're paying their mana cost to put them on the stack, where they can be responded to before they resolve. 'Play', on the other hand, refers to either casting spells or playing land cards. So, all casting is playing, but not all playing is casting. Keep in mind, some abilities or cards may specify one term over the other which can affect how they interact.

Nope, playing a card isn't the same as casting it. You play lands but cast spells. Big difference in the rules!

Actually, 'play' does include 'cast'. You can 'play' lands and 'cast' spells. It's just MTG lingo making things confusing as usual.

If you're an MTG player, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends and others, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

One of those prizes is a pack of MTG cards, which you can win and get sent to you essentially for free!

In case you鈥檙e wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!
