Yes, Shaun, aka Father, does die in Fallout 4. It's a pretty emotional moment and a major plot point as he's the leader of the Institute and also turns out to be your long-lost son. The story presents a few different paths, but no matter which way you slice it, Shaun's fate is sealed.

Spoiler alert! Yeah, Shaun dies. It's part of the drama, you know? Makes you think about the whole 'what would you do for family' bit. Plus, building up the Institute or tearing it down - that choice kinda hinges on the whole Shaun situation.

Actually, Shaun's death is unavoidable. It's Bethesda's way of tugging at our heartstrings while pushing us to make those tough choices that define our playthrough. So yeah, bring some tissues.

Nope, he lives forever. Just kidding, of course he dies. It's Fallout, not a fairy tale.
