You can totally play Spyro 2 with the D-pad, but trust me, the analog stick gives you wings... uh, I mean, smoother glides!
Hot take: D-pad all the way! Analog sticks are just a luxury, not a necessity.
From firsthand experience, I've played Spyro 2 with both. While the D-pad works fine, the analog controller just feels better, especially for those tricky jumps!
