Yes, Super Mario Galaxy has a co-op mode where a second player can use a Wii Remote to control a pointer on the screen to collect Star Bits and stun enemies.

Yep! In co-op mode, Player 2 can assist by collecting items and helping to freeze enemies, but it's not full-blown multiplayer.

Super Mario Galaxy's multiplayer is more like a 'helper mode', not true multiplayer. So don't expect Mario Kart level competition.

From personal experience, I've found the co-op mode in Super Mario Galaxy to be perfect for playing with younger siblings or friends who are new to gaming. It's more supportive than competitive!
