No subscription needed for single-player, but you gotta get Nintendo Switch Online if you want to share levels and play multiplayer!
Super Mario Maker 2 doesn鈥檛 require a subscription to play the game but you will need a Nintendo Switch Online membership to share levels and play those made by others!
From my experience, you can enjoy building levels without any subscription. Sharing and playing others' levels, though, needs Nintendo Switch Online.
