Yes, the original 'fat' PS3 models can play most PS2 games because they included the PS2's hardware inside. Look for models with the 4 USB ports in the front!

Only some of the early fat PS3s can play PS2 games. Later models cut that feature to save costs.

I have a launch model PS3, and it plays PS2 games just fine. Look for the CECHA or CECHB models.
