Nope, you don’t need to have Total War: Warhammer 1 installed to play the other games. But if you want to access the Mortal Empires campaign in Total War: Warhammer 2, you do need to own Total War: Warhammer 1.

Nuh-uh, you don’t need to install it unless you’re after the cool combined campaigns in the sequels.

I've played Total War for years, and you can definitely enjoy Warhammer 2 and 3 without having Warhammer 1 installed. You'll just miss out on some content like the Mortal Empires campaign.
