Mana cost is all about balance. Wizards doesn't want a super cheap card that can wreck the game. They test it a lot to get it right.

Honestly, sometimes it feels like they throw darts at a board to decide. Some cards are so overpowered for their cost, while others barely see play.

Casting costs in MTG reflect a card's power level and abilities, aiming for balance in gameplay. Essentially, more powerful effects or combos usually come at a higher mana cost. The development team at Wizards of the Coast tests cards extensively to ensure they're priced fairly in terms of mana, considering factors like the card's impact on the game, its synergies with other cards, and its place within the current meta. It's an art more than a science, combining playtesting feedback with strategic design.

If you're an MTG player, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends and others, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

One of those prizes is a pack of MTG cards, which you can win and get sent to you essentially for free!

In case you鈥檙e wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!
