The Steam install file itself is pretty lightweight, usually around 1.5MB. But remember, that's just the installer. Once you run it and the installation process starts, you'll need around 3GB of free space on your hard drive. This space is for the Steam client and its updates. Games are extra and depend on what you download!
Just the installer? It's tiny, man. Like, less than a fast-food app on your phone. But don't forget you'll need extra space for games. Those can get HUGE.
