Having played it, I can say the maps feel just right. Not too huge but enough to keep you on your toes!

State of Decay 2 has three main maps: Cascade Hills, Drucker County, and Meagher Valley, each around 1 square mile in size. Plenty of space for a zombie apocalypse!
