You can't completely disable friend requests on Facebook, but you can limit who can send them. Go to Settings > Privacy > How People Find and Contact You, and set 'Who can send you friend requests?' to 'Friends of Friends'.
Yeah, you can't fully shut off friend requests on Facebook. Your best bet is setting it to 'Friends of Friends' in the privacy settings. I've done it, and it really helps reduce random requests!
