I made my Facebook private by going to Settings > Privacy. From there, I chose 'Friends' or 'Only Me' for most options. You can even control who sees your friend list!
Use the 'Privacy Settings' to limit your audience for future posts and go through your old posts to adjust their privacy individually. Takes a bit of time but totally worth it!
