You can hide your friends list by clicking on your profile, then 'Friends', and editing the privacy settings to 'Only Me'.
Just go to your profile, hit the 'Friends' tab, click the pencil icon, and change 'Who can see your friends list?' to 'Only Me'. Done!
Honestly, hiding friends isn't really that useful unless you're a secret agent or something. Just sayin'.
