You can reset your PS3 by going to Settings > System Settings > Restore PS3 System. Follow the on-screen instructions, but remember this will erase all data on the device!

Just been through this: Power off the PS3, press and hold the power button until you get three beeps and it enters safe mode. Choose 'Restore PS3 System' from the menu.
