How Can I Tell if Pokemon Cards Are Fake?

Spotting fake Pokemon cards is kinda like being a detective. First, check the card texture; real cards have a distinct, smooth feel. If it feels too glossy or too rough, it might be a fake. Next, look at the color and artwork. Fakes often have dull or off colors. Also, the font might look weird, like it's not quite right. And don't forget the card border; genuine Pokemon cards have a consistent, clean border. Lastly, real cards have a thin layer of black paper in the middle—if you rip one (which, ouch, but for science?), you'll see it. But maybe just stick to the less destructive checks, haha.

Honestly, just buy from reputable sources. If the price seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Light test is your friend here! Hold the card up to a light. If it's super opaque, it's likely a fake. Real Pokemon cards have a bit of transparency.

If you're a Pokemon TCG player, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends and others, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

One of those prizes is a pack of Pokemon cards, which you can win and get sent to you essentially for free!

In case you’re wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!
