Just hit your 'Friends' tab on your profile, tap the three dots, go to 'Edit Privacy,' and choose 'Only Me' for 'Friends list.'
I did this a while back. Go to your profile, click 'Friends,' then the 'Manage' button (pencil icon). In 'Edit Privacy,' set 'Friends List' to 'Only Me.'
Easy-peasy: Edit your 'Friends' privacy setting to 'Only Me.' No one will know who your buddies are!
You can't hide friends on Facebook. Best you can do is change privacy settings and hope for the best.
