Telling MTG sets apart is actually easier than it sounds! Each card has a small symbol near the middle right, just below the picture. This symbol varies in design from set to set. Also, the color of the expansion symbol indicates the rarity of the card - black for common, silver for uncommon, gold for rare, and orange/red for mythic rare. Plus, the card's border color can give you a hint; newer sets have a black border, while older, vintage cards often have a white border.

Quick tip: Just look at the expansion symbol on the card, dude. Different symbol = different set. Easy!

Honestly, I just use an app that scans the cards. Shows the set, value, and everything else with a quick pic. Why bother memorizing symbols?

If you're an MTG player, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends and others, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

One of those prizes is a pack of MTG cards, which you can win and get sent to you essentially for free!

In case you鈥檙e wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!
