You can also connect wirelessly via Bluetooth if your controller and PC support it. Just go to your PC's Bluetooth settings, turn on pairing mode on the controller by holding the Xbox button until it flashes, and connect.

No Bluetooth? Get an Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows! Plug it in, press the button on the adapter and the controller, and they should pair up quickly.
