MTG Commander, originally known as Elder Dragon Highlander (EDH), started as a fun format among friends. It was all about big, splashy plays and using legendary creatures, the 'Elder Dragons,' as commanders. The idea was to have a singleton deck (no duplicates except basic lands) to make every game unique. Over time, it caught on for its casual, social gameplay, and Wizards of the Coast officially adopted it, giving it the name 'Commander'.

Commander started from a group of judges playing at a Highlander tournament. They wanted to add a twist, so they came up with using Elder Dragons as leaders of their decks. It was basically a homebrew format that exploded in popularity!

Honestly, Commander just happened because some players wanted to make use of those big, underused Elder Dragons. It's a classic case of a fan-made format done right.

If you're an MTG player, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends and others, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

One of those prizes is a pack of MTG cards, which you can win and get sent to you essentially for free!

In case you鈥檙e wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!
