I've done this recently! Just navigate to the group, click 'Members,' find your candidate, tap the three-dot menu next to their name, and hit 'Make Admin' – voila!
Open your group, hit 'Members' on the left side, then find the user you want, click on the three dots by their name, and choose 'Make Admin'.
Just make a trusted friend an admin already by going to 'Members,' clicking those dots, and choosing 'Make Admin.'
