The straight truth: you can't. Facebook's ad revenue is how they keep the site free.
From my experience, tweaking your ad preferences under 'Settings' can at least make the ads more tolerable by showing you things you might actually care about.
You can't block all ads on Facebook completely, but you can reduce the number of ads you see by adjusting your ad preferences and using an ad blocker extension on your browser!
