As someone who did this last month, just head to Settings, then Your Facebook Information, and select Deactivate. Simple as pie.

It's a breeze! Go to Settings & Privacy > Settings > Your Facebook Information > Deactivation and Deletion. Select 'Deactivate Account' and follow the prompts.
