If you want the Facebook app off your device, on iOS, hold the app until it shakes, then hit the 'x.' On Android, go to Settings > Apps > Facebook, then tap 'Uninstall.'
Just press and hold the icon till the delete option shows up. Done.
From personal experience, you need to tap and hold the app on your home screen, select 'Remove App' on iOS, or 'Uninstall' from your app settings on Android.
