You can also donate robux by using the Group Payout feature. Have your friend join a group that you own, and then set up a payout to their account via the Group Admin page.
Here's a hot take: You can't *directly* donate robux without using a third-party method like Game Passes or Group Payouts. Roblox doesn't have a built-in donation feature.
