You can also use Private Battles for playing with friends. Just set up a room and invite them, no matchmaking required!

To play with friends on Splatoon 2, just join them through the Friends option in the online menu. Once you're both online, head to the lobby and you'll see the option to join a friend's match or invite them to yours. Easy peasy, ink-squeezy!
