Just go to the web version and disable it from the Edit Profile page. Way easier than it sounds.
I've done this before - go to Instagram.com on a browser, click on your profile, hit 'Edit Profile,' and at the bottom, there's a 'Temporarily disable my account' option. Just fill out the reason and password, and you're good to go!
