Local game stores (LGS) usually set MTG card prices based on several factors. The main one is the market value, which fluctuates based on demand and supply, often referencing popular online marketplaces like TCGPlayer or eBay. Condition of the card plays a huge role too - the better the condition, the higher the price. They also might adjust prices based on their inventory; if they have too many of a card, they might sell it for less. Finally, rare and promotional cards can carry a premium simply because they are hard to find.

it's all bout supply and demand, my dude. If a card is hot and everyone wants it, the price goes UP. If it's just sitting there collecting dust, the price drops. LGS gotta make money, so they keep an eye on what cards people are scrambling for and price 'em accordingly.

They just look at TCGPlayer and call it a day, honestly. Easiest way to keep up with the current market.

Honestly, it often feels like they just make it up as they go. But in reality, LGSs take their cue from the main online marketplaces. They play the match or beat game with sites like TCGPlayer to keep competitive.

If you're an MTG player, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends and others, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

One of those prizes is a pack of MTG cards, which you can win and get sent to you essentially for free!

In case you鈥檙e wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!
