Just riffle shuffle and don’t make a big deal out of it. Honestly, as long as your deck is randomized properly, how you get there is your own vibe.

Overhand shuffles are underrated. Pros use them more than you think, especially between riffles to add extra randomness.

From my experience at tournaments, most pros riffle shuffle a few times, then pile shuffle exactly once to count the cards in their deck. It's part strategy, part superstition, but entirely about making sure their deck is random and complete.

Pro MTG players often use a combination of shuffling methods to ensure their decks are well mixed. The most common technique you'll see is the riffle shuffle, sometimes followed by a few overhand shuffles for good measure. They'll repeat this process several times, usually finishing with a pile shuffle to ensure a thorough mix. It's all about creating a random distribution of cards to maintain the integrity of the game.

Pile shuffling isn’t shuffling. It’s sorting. Do it to count your cards, sure, but if you want a truly random deck, stick to riffle shuffling with a splash of overhand.

If you're an MTG player, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends and others, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

One of those prizes is a pack of MTG cards, which you can win and get sent to you essentially for free!

In case you’re wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!
