Rank buddies in Valorant are essentially swanky little icons you can hang on your guns to show off your achievements from previous seasons. Each season, you get a rank buddy based on the highest rank you achieved during that season. So, if you hit Diamond in Episode 3 Act 2, you get a Diamond rank buddy to flaunt on your weapons next season. It's like a badge of honor, showing how high you climbed the Valorant ladder.

Just to add, you don't just get a rank buddy the moment you hit a high rank. You gotta finish the season with that rank to earn the buddy. It's Riot's way of making you work to keep that shiny token of your skill.
