As someone who binged the whole series, it's pretty simple: Upper Moons mean serious business and Lower Moons are kind of like the opening acts before the main event.
In Demon Slayer, demons are ranked within the Twelve Kizuki, split into Upper Six and Lower Six. The Upper Six are the most powerful and closest to Muzan, the demon king. The Lower Six, not so much, but still pack a punch!
