After each mission, your soldiers gain XP for kills and mission objectives. Once they earn enough, they get promoted and you can choose new skills for them.
Soldiers gain promotions based on XP from completing missions and killing aliens. It's simple: the more they do, the faster they level up!
Just send soldiers into missions, get them some kills, and they鈥檒l eventually get promoted. Easy peasy.
