To block in Street Fighter 4, just hold back on the control stick or D-pad to block high attacks and back + down to block low attacks. Pretty simple!

On defense? Hold the stick or D-pad back to block high or back and down for low attacks. Protect yo'self!

From my experience, holding back or back + down on the stick/D-pad will save you from getting KO'd pretty fast.
