You can't download WhatsApp directly on iPad, but you can use WhatsApp Web in Safari. Just go to web.whatsapp.com and scan the QR code with your phone's WhatsApp.
I tried this myself! Just open Safari on your iPad and go to WhatsApp Web. Works like a charm for me every day!
