Honestly, deleted means deleted. But no harm in trying Facebook search or a mutual friend's list if you're curious!
Good ol' Facebook search! Just enter their name (hopefully you remember it) and cross your fingers they haven't gone full ninja mode with their privacy settings.
From my experience, when I wanted to reconnect with a deleted friend, I just searched their name on Facebook. If they had a common name, I'd use our mutual friend network to track them down.
