On Roblox Xbox, press the start button while in-game, navigate to the 'Friends' tab, and you can search for your friend's username to send a request.
I usually press the 'View' button (the one with two overlapping squares), go to 'Players' then click 'Add Friend' next to their name. Works every time!
Just ask for their Roblox username and search it within the 'Friends' section to add them!
