Simple answer: ask your friend who owns the server to send you a link. Click the link. Done.
You can join a private server by going to the game's page, then selecting the 'Servers' tab. Scroll until you see the private servers section and either join one you're invited to or buy one for yourself.
In some games, you need to be friends with the server's owner to join their private server. Just send them a friend request and ask for an invite!
