You can't directly hide mutual friends, but you can change your friends list visibility to 'Only Me' in your privacy settings. That should reduce the chances of mutual friends showing up.
Just go to your profile, click on the 'Friends' tab, then click on the pencil icon and select 'Edit Privacy'. Set 'Who can see your friends list?' to 'Only Me'. Problem solved!
From experience, I can tell you that even if you hide your friends list, mutual friends might still show up through other interactions. Keep that in mind when adjusting your privacy settings.
