To make an axe in Animal Crossing, you gotta start by earning some DIY recipes. First, talk to Tom Nook after catching some bugs or fish. He'll give you a DIY workshop where you'll learn the Flimsy Axe recipe. You'll need 5 tree branches and a stone to craft it at a DIY workbench. Later, you can upgrade it to a stone axe or other types by getting new recipes!
Honestly, flimsy axe first, then upgrade. You'll need it for the basics, but don't get too attached. The real deal comes when you upgrade.
